Leask Marine supports Fair Isle Energy Project

Leask Marine supports Fair Isle Energy ProjectLeask Marine have been appointed as the main marine contractor for the transportation of plant, equipment & materials for a major infrastructure project on the Fair Isles. The project consists of currently building a concrete base for the erection of the community turbine that will provide electricity to the island community 24-7.  Once the concrete base has been constructed the various cable runs for the supply require to be dug & laid, and then eventually the turbine will be erected.

In all there are multiple contractors for the project with CHAP Construction supplying the main ground construction works, Harbon Wind Turbines for the turbine supply and erection, and the utility supplier SSE Enterprises.

To date we have made 4 round trips from Orkney with full loads on Leask Marines multi-cats the MV C-Fenna and the MV C-Odyssey. The loads to date have consisted of ready mix cement lorry, 2 excavators, tractor & trailer, dumper truck, vans, fuel bowsers, generators and other construction plant. The materials are being supplied by a number of aggregate and building supply companies and we have shipped so far over 100 tones stone aggregate, 25 tonnes of cement, and ducting, pipework and fittings etc.

Leask Marine will be making further deliveries of aggregate, cement and cables, transformers, and turbine to the Fair Isles over the coming months.
