Leask Marine is highly experienced in the installation of concrete mattresses and rock bags to provide robust protection for cables, ducts, and pipelines, as well as effective scour protection.
Our team delivers safe, efficient, and durable solutions in both nearshore and offshore environments, ensuring infrastructure stability under challenging seabed and marine conditions. With a proven track record, we combine technical expertise, specialised equipment, and meticulous planning to safeguard critical subsea assets against mechanical damage, erosion, and environmental forces.

Leask Marine will consider the key requirements to recommend a range of methods for cable, duct, pipeline protection, or for preventing scour around assets or structures. These include seabed conditions, current and wave action, cable or pipeline curvature, and to minimise the environmental impact.
Concrete Mattressing
Whether it is for protecting subsea cables, pipelines, or ducts from mechanical damage (anchors, fishing, debris), mattressing can provide weight to hold pipelines or ducts in place on soft seabeds. They also provide scour protection by stabilising the seabed around pipelines and structures.
The design is typically rectangular, and can be flat or articulated (connected by hinges of wire / polypropylene to conform to seabed contours). The sizes vary depending on water depth, pipeline diameter, and environmental conditions.
Leask Marine deploys from our multicat vessels using the vessels, or jack-up barge, Eiva NaviPac Integrated Software that utilises integrated navigation and data acquisition software to enable precise execution.

The company owns a range of lifting frames used in conjunction with strategically places camera’s supported by our own 360° spyball camera’s, divers or ROV to ensure that the mattresses are in alignment and positioned as required. These systems not only ensure placement accuracy, but ensure that there are no gaps exposing the pipeline or cable.
Rock filter Units (or Rock bags as generally known)
Again whether it is for protecting subsea cables, pipelines, or ducts from abrasion, currents, and erosion, they provide scour protection around pipelines, structures, or bridge piers. They can be used in shallow water or areas with uneven seabeds where mattresses are impractical.
We generally work with 2ton, 4 ton, and 8 ton bags, with the bag size depending on the environmental load (waves, current) and the asset being protected.

As with the mattresses, Leask Marine will deploy from our multicat vessels using the vessels Eiva NaviPac Integrated Software that utilises integrated navigation and data acquisition software to enable precise execution.
The bags are placed strategically and placement and accuracy is managed once again with camera’s supported by our own 360° spyball camera’s, divers or ROV to ensure that the mattresses are in alignment and positioned as required. These systems not only ensure placement accuracy but ensure that there are no gaps exposing the pipeline or cable, as they can be overlapped as required.
As they are flexible they are good for irregular seabed conditions, easy to transport and deploy in smaller batches. And are self-healing under minor movement as settle into position over time.
